So what makes the Minifit Ultrathin Sleep Buds the best all around earbuds for sleepers of all types?

  • The most comfortable earbuds for sleeping, period. The Minifit are by far the lightest, thinnest earbuds on the market today. That’s critical if you tend to roll over in your sleep, or sleep on your side. At just a few grams each, the earbuds stay comfortably in place, and won’t end up lost to the crevices of the bed in the morning.
  • Sleep specific features including a sleep timer. If you enjoy listening to anything before bed, you’ll appreciate the multi-layer dynamic drivers with a specific mode for sleep. In plain language that means the earbuds control sound balance to ensure there are no jarring tones. An included timer can also slowly reduce the volume as you fall asleep.
  • Slim profile travel USB-C charging case. Travelers will appreciate the thin charging case that can easily slip into a pocket, purse, or bag of any size. The included case can recharge the Minifit buds for an added 24 hours of use time, or about 4 full nights of sleep. Plug the case in to standard USB-C to rapid charge in about an hour.
  • Wearable during the day, too. The Minifit include all the standard benefits of modern wireless earbuds, including microphones for taking or making calls and a mode for day listening, which brightens high and low tones significantly for active hours. Working out, commuting, or going about your day is equally enjoyable with the Minifit, making them a better overall value.

Bose Sleepbuds II: Excellent earbuds for sleeping with a price that might keep you awake at night – $399.00 at Bose.com.au →

Where to buy the Bose Sleepbuds II in Australia

Bose are known for premium sound and premium prices. The second edition of their breakthrough Sleepbuds offers some improvements, but after 4 years in market is being outpaced by cheaper, newer competitors. Bose are planning to reduce or even stop selling this line in Australia soon, so pick them up while you can!

Why Bose make the list of best earbuds for sleeping

  • Patented shape and design for sleepers. Bose have performed an admirable job engineering the Sleepbuds II to fit the ear comfortably. The double fin design helps keep the earbuds stable and in place without causing discomfort. That said, they have been matched by other products in market at less than half the price.
  • Innovative noise masking (not cancelling) technology. Many readers are familiar with noise cancelling technology, which actively blocks sound waves from entering your ear canal. The Quietbuds II uses noise masking, which creates white noise to help mask loud sounds like snoring or traffic. While the technology is new, it offers a welcome reprieve from noisy sleeping environments.
  • App-based interface for playing sounds. Bose Sleepbuds do not play podcasts or music from your Bluetooth devices. Instead, you must use a smartphone the included Bose app to download and play ambient or relaxing sounds. This means users who want to play their own sounds whilst falling asleep are out of luck.
  • Product may be canceled soon in Australia. Sadly, it appears Bose have decided to cancel the Sleepbuds II in Australia. That means soon, you may no longer be able to purchase the product from local stores. Bose note that the market for sleep buds is simply too small for them to pursue.

Soundcore Sleep A10: Purpose designed earbuds that may not work for side sleepers – $189.99 at Soundcore.com.au →

Where to buy the Soundcore Sleep A10 earbuds for sleep in Australia

Adidas are a classic European brand that have always been closely tied with athletics. And the unique XPLR Boost continue that legacy by offering a lightweight, comfortable, if not unconventional all around women’s runner that’s worth a close look.

Why Soundcore make the list of best earbuds for sleeping

  • Comfortable design for side sleepers. Soundcore have done their homework when it comes to design. The A10 are light and comfortable, easily fitting into ear shapes of all sizes. They tend to stay in, though sleepers who move a lot during the night may experience the occasional lost earbud in the morning due to the fin shape (and depending on your unique ear shape as well).
  • Extra long battery life. The Soundcore Sleep A10 come with enough battery life for any sleep length, clocking in at 10+ hours of use. That’s incredible considering the small size, and may be right for those who manage to get in long, sustained sleep cycles.
  • No outside music or podcasts allowed. Sadly Soundcore does not allow you to use the A10 to play your own music, podcasts, or relaxing tracks. Much like Bose, there are default tracks included, and numerous enough that you will likely find the right tone to fit your mood. But it is annoying that you cannot play your own custom sounds when needed.
  • Build and durability is questionable. The Soundcore Sleep A10 are made to look good, but feel cheap to the point where we wonder if they can stand up to the test of time. Many companies make earbuds to last only one or two years, and we feel the A10 will likely fall into this range of product life.

QuietOn 3.1 Sleep Earbuds: Noise isolation earbuds with no ability to play personalized audio – $429.00 at Quieton.com.au →

Where to buy the QuietOn 3.1 Sleep Earbuds in Australia

While QuietOn is a relatively new brand to Australia, they are bringing a distinct level of quality and innovation to sleepers who need active noise cancelling (ANC). However, with no Bluetooth connectivity and a unique but odd shape QuietOn face challenges at a high price point.

Why Quieton make the list of best snore cancelling earbuds

  • Active noise cancelling technology to block all sounds. With active noise cancelling tech inbuilt, the 3.1 Sleep Earbuds attempt to mask noise in two ways: By cancelling out incoming sound waves before thye hit your ear canal, and through passively playing white noise to mask outside sounds. It is an effective combo that keeps noise to a bare minimum while you rest.
  • Well made case, but light on accessories. QuietOn have included a solid, well made case that should last for many years of use, as well as 3 sizes of foam ear tips. However, the ear tips may not be adequate for sleeping, more on this below.
  • No Bluetooth signal and no outside connectivity. As with other sleep buds, the QuietOn 3.1 Sleep Earbuds include no ability to connect to outside devices through Bluetooth. This means you won’t be able to pipe in your own sounds, or use apps that add functionality.
  • Small, but awkward shape tends to fall out during the night. The earbuds are impressively small, but do not include any method of stabilisation. They tend to snag or pull on pillows and sheets, which can be particularly bothersome for side sleepers. The tiny size means you may be hunting for a loose earbud in the morning.

Runners-up: Best Earbuds For Sleeping

There are many, many wireless earbuds in the market. And while we attempt to test as many as possible for our readers, some units simply don’t make the cut. Here’s a quick peek at the best earbuds for small ears we tried that didn’t make the list.

Jabra Elite Sport – $309.99 at Amazon.com.au →

Jabra Elite Sport Earbuds Review

Jabra is well known for call quality and overall aesthetic, and are popular earbuds for sleeping due to their small form factor. While the earbuds are just fine in a number of categories, they fail the sleep test when compared to purpose built units. In effect; a jack of all trades priced at absurd levels.

Jaybird Run XT – $209.99 at Amazon.com.au →

The Jaybird Run XT are designed and named for runners, but commonly used for sleeping as well. These purpose-built true wireless earbuds can fall out easily when in a reclined position, and just weren’t designed for use while sleeping. Jaybird has the right idea, but just aren’t made for sleepers.

Samsung Galaxy Buds – $191.00 at Amazon.com.au →

The Galaxy smartphone is one of the most popular on the planet, and the pressure to create award-winning accessories is high. But from active movers’ perspectives, the Galaxy Buds don’t quite justify their price tag. Samsung tackled the challenge of an all around true wireless earbud, but failed to address use in a reclined or side sleeping position. We look forward to Samsung producing a model made specifically for sleeping, if ever!
