What makes the Bonzachef Ristretto the best manual coffee grinder?

  • Extremely precise stainless steel components deliver on every front. It’s hard to critique such a well constructed product. Interlocking stainless steel components fit together perfectly, and grinding action is smooth and delightful.
  • Manual dial grind settings. Rather than presets, the Ristretto Pro features a dial allowing you to accurately gauge the exact coarseness level you desire. It’s a wonderful feature to be free of presets, and lets you more easily experiment with various textures and flavours.
  • Large bean chamber allows for larger brews. The Ristretto Pro is not overly large, but makes enough grounds in one go to produce coffee for the family or for a single pour over.
  • Easy to clean and fully washable. Breaking down the Ristretto takes moments, and assembly is just as quick once you get used to the 7 internal components. We would like to see Bonzachef include a large quick assembly diagram in the future to make this process even easier.

Timemore Chestnut Nano: Handy coffee grinder with a premium build – $189.99 at Amazon.com.au →

best manual coffee grinder

Where to buy the Timemore Chestnut Nano manual coffee grinder in Australia

Timemore stake their name on devices that take more time (pun intended) to achieve a result. In this case, the Chestnut Nano delivers on the promise – in a good way. Though on the smaller size, the product has a unique crank mechanism that provides a smooth, consistent grind.

What makes the Timemore Chestnut Nano a top manual coffee grinder?

  • Telescoping stainless handle makes grinding a breeze. Timemore have included an innovative telescoping handle that can adjust to your desired grinding method. That’s a welcome feature and makes storage easier and more attractive.
  • Smaller size means more grinding. The Chestnut Nano – as the name implies – is quite small. You may find yourself grinding two or three times to produce enough grounds for larger drip machines.
  • Difficult to clean. The Chestnut Nano is difficult to take apart and clean, and should not be placed in the dish washer. Small crevices tend to accumulate grounds quickly, and regular cleaning is a must.

KINGrinder K2: A manual hand coffee grinder with modern design features – $150.00 at Amazon.com.au →

Where to buy the KINGrinder K2 manual coffee grinder in Australia

The KINGrinder K2 has the appearance of a fancy travel thermos, but in fact grinds beans with the best of them. This manual grinder uses a novel rubberized grip to twist into the grind. And while the grind result is good, this action may not appeal to everyone.

Why the KINGrinder K2 lands on our top coffee grinder list

  • Excellent grind with easy to adjust coarseness. The K2 has a sharp and well engineered burr that creates even grounds without a lot of fuss. The adjustable dial locks in the proper coarseness with ease.
  • Modern, unique design that looks attractive on your counter. One of the more unique manual coffee grinders on the market, the K2 may not appeal to everyone. But if you have a more modern kitchen you may appreciate this beauty sitting atop the counter.
  • Difficult grinding action can be awkward. KINGrinder have opted for a pepper mill style twisting mechanism to grind coffee. That can be difficult or impossible for some users, and tends to put stress on the wrists.
  • Rubberized handle can wear over time. Use of silicone rubber on the outside grip is smart given the grinding action, but it may also present a wear point that can break down over time.

How Easyworkz Slim brings value grinding to the masses

  • Basic grinder at a good value. Easyworkz have made a small, simple manual coffee grinder that does what it says on the tin. The Slim makes quick work of enough beans to make an espresso, or about half a pot of drip coffee.
  • Grinding mechanism can be rough. The burr mechanism on the Slim is decent, but not as precise as competitors. This means grinding can be harder and require more effort to get done. We want to work for our coffee, but not this much!
  • Plastic components may not stand up to abuse. We prefer to see all metal components in a mechanical coffee grinder. The Slim has several key components that are made of plastic, which can wear down over time and with repeated use.

Timemore Chestnut G1 Plus: High design meets sky high price tag – $269.00 at Amazon.com.au →

Where to buy the Timemore Chestnut G1 Plus hand coffee grinder in Australia

Timemore take up a second slot in our list with the monstrously priced G1 Plus. It is very attractive and does the job of grinding well. That said, it is priced far too high for most at home grinders, and may be more appropriate for restaurant use.

Why the Timemore Chestnut G1 may find a better home in restaurants over your kitchen

  • Brilliantly made with beautiful natural wood detail. Timemore have outdone themselves with the design of the K2. Pictures don’t fully do it justice and the gunmetal stainless steel and wood grain look fabulous.
  • Super smooth grinding action even after long sessions. The grinding mechanism is absolutely perfect, producing a smooth action that offers no resistance. Even during longer grinding sessions, the K2 gives little to no push back.
  • Difficult to dismantle and clean. The K2 is not easy to take apart and clean thanks to an odd interlocking mechanism and tough to reach innards. The wood grain finish means it must be delicately hand washed to preserve the finish.
  • Incredibly expensive for a manual coffee grinder. We don’t ned to say much more. The price of this manual coffee grinder is sky high despite the same features as competitors.
